How to Get a Dog to Pee on Paper

How to Get a Dog to Pee on Paper

Paper training your dog is basically the same as any other type of potty training. It needs to begin early in your dog's life and you need to consistently teach your pet what is expected. Training a dog to potty on papers works particularly well for small dogs, especially those who are primarily indoor pets. "...Most people assume that it is essential to get dog training tips earlier to having their pets. Many people could find this exciting but a lot of people might recognize that this is a great tip to follow. The problem with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they may be not suitable to be cautious of them. Finally, they would probably depart their pets in order to retrieve their old lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they have got to handle and if they have the time to coach their dogs. These guidelines will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to conduct proper dog training, you will take pleasure in a lifetime of peaceful a relationship with your ".... Paper training also works very well for owners who have difficulty getting outside due to age or illness, or for city dwellers whose access to appropriate outdoor places for dogs may be limited.

Instructions

    1

Choose an out of the way corner in your house to use for your pet's potty, such as the bathroom or laundry room. Cover the area with a thick layer of papers. Use extra papers and in the beginning, cover a large area.

    2

Confine your dog in the room with the potty place while training. The room should preferably have a floor that is easy to clean, such as linoleum. Young dogs under the age of 12 weeks need to toilet frequently until they learn to hold their bladder.

    3

Take your dog to the paper at regular intervals, such as upon awakening, after feeding, following naps, and before bedtime. Say the pet's name first, then use a key word or phrase, such as "Go potty." When you remove the soiled papers, always leave a lightly soiled one to teach the dog to come back to that area.

    4

Every time your dog uses the paper successfully, give lots of praise and a small treat. Clean up any accidents outside of the paper area immediately, using white vinegar and water solution or a pet shop product to help eliminate odors. This is important because you will not want your pet to be attracted back to an inappropriate place to potty.

    5

Remove some of the papers every week until you are covering only the small area where the dog prefers to eliminate. Be sure to clean the potty place daily and flush any solids immediately. The process will take at least several weeks of diligent attention, but the outcome will be worth the work.

How to Change the Behavior of a Scared Dog

How to Change the Behavior of a Scared Dog

If a puppy is not socialized properly and exposed to new sights and sounds, chances are it will grow up to be a frightened dog. Owning a frightened dog is not fun; you and your dog are probably equally upset about its fears and its reactions to those fears. Though it is time consuming, it is possible to rehabilitate a scared dog and teach it how to cope with and overcome its fears.

Instructions

    1

Identify your dog's triggers, or situations that cause fearful behavior such barking, growling, biting, drooling, cowering and fleeing. Common fears include children, men, strangers, bicycles, skateboards and car rides. Once you understand what your dog is afraid of, you can begin training your dog to overcome its fears.

    2

Identify your dog's threshold, or the point at which your dog can no longer deal with its trigger before reacting with fearful behavior. "...Lots of individuals assume the reason is essential to get dog training tips preceding to getting their pets. Some individuals may find this exciting but a lot of people might agree that this is a really good tip to follow. The problem with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be aware of them. Eventually, they could depart their pets in order to bring back their old lives. These dog training tips can let people learn what they should deal with and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These guidelines could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to conduct correct dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of comfortable a relationship with your ".... This will be important when desensitizing your dog to its triggers, as you don't want to overwhelm the dog to the point where it mentally shuts down or resorts to biting.

    3

Provide your dog with a safe place free of triggers for when it feels overwhelmed, such as its crate or its dog bed in a favorite room. If your dog encounters its triggers outside of your home, keep your dog on a leash during training sessions and allow it to move a comfortable distance away from the trigger if it feels overwhelmed.

    4

Create a comfortable environment for your dog and ensure that your dog has access to a safe place before beginning a training session. If training sessions are to be held outside due to your dog's fear of bikes or car rides, begin in your yard or as close to your home as possible.

    5

Introduce a trigger to your dog in the comfortable environment.

For example, if your dog is afraid of a specific type of person, invite over someone who fits the description. Instruct the person to sit on the couch or the floor, as it's less threatening than standing, and allow your dog to approach him or her.

    6

    Make the experience positive.

Continuing the example above, have the person encourage the dog to approach him or her and offer your dog its favorite treat, even if your dog only takes the treat and retreats to its safe place. It is still progress, and over time your dog will associate the positive experience with the trigger, and will become less fearful.

    7

Calm your dog throughout the session when it reacts with fearful behavior by petting your dog or talking to it in a soft voice. Allow your dog to go to its safe place if it reaches its threshold.

    8

Keep training sessions short (10 to 15 minutes) and always end on a positive note. Reinforce good behavior outside of training sessions as well when your dog comes into contact with triggers.

How to Train a Neopolitain Mastiff Puppy

How to Train a Neopolitain Mastiff Puppy

The Neapolitan Mastiff is a powerful dog with a large head and nose, heavy lips, deep set eyes and loose skin. It is a very intelligent, easy-going and loyal breed of dog. The mastiff rarely barks, loves human companionship and is gentle with family members and children. "...Most people assume that it is crucial to get dog training tips earlier to acquiring their pets. Lots of people may find this fascinating but a lot of people might recognize that this is a top notch tip to follow. The challenge with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to take care of them. Finally, they could abandon their pets in order to bring back their old lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they have to take care of and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These hints can be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to conduct appropriate dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... The dogs do have natural protective instincts, and are wary of strangers. The mastiff may be aggressive toward other dogs; it should be well socialized and raised with other dogs from puppyhood. Early training is imperative if you wish your Neapolitan Mastiff to be a well-mannered member of the family.

Instructions

Basic Obedience

    1

Housebreak your Neapolitan mastiff through crate training. Provide a crate just large enough for your puppy to sleep in, with a little room for growth; this is a quick-growing, large breed. The puppy will not normally soil where it sleeps. Place a blanket or dog bed for comfort inside the crate. It is best to place the crate in an area around the family, but away from vents and drafts.

    2

Walk the puppy as soon as you arise each morning, after each feeding, before bedtime, before leaving your dog alone and whenever the puppy seems restless or bored. This intelligent breed will quickly understand that it should only urinate and defecate outside.

    3

Begin basic commands with your puppy on a leash. Keep the leash loose while standing in front of your puppy with a treat. Enticing with a treat -- and saying the command "come" while slightly tugging on the leash -- should get your puppy to walk to you. Along with handing the treat to your pup, be sure to use a lot of praise. This breed loves to please its owner.

    4

Use a clicker for basic commands, and use one-word commands. Start with the "sit" command. Hold the clicker in your hand behind your back; hold a treat in the other hand. Tell the puppy to sit, and pull up slightly on the leash. You may need to use a hand to push down on your pup's rump while giving the command. Immediately click the clicker, and give the treat and praise (in that order) when the puppy sits. This confirms the appropriate behavior. Repetition and consistency are crucial.

    5

Keep training sessions short, about 15 minutes at a time. Alternate commands to keep the sessions fun and varied. Gently pull down on the leash - while the pup is still in the "sit" position -- to teach the "down" command. When the puppy lies down on all fours, again click, treat and praise. Continue the training with other commands such as "stay," "stand" and a basic "no."

How to Train a Shih-Tzu Puppy to a Harness & Leash

How to Train a Shih-Tzu Puppy to a Harness & Leash

Training your Shih Tzu puppy to walk on a leash is one of the most important skills your puppy will learn. Walks allow the dog to get out and interact with the world in a safe, supervised manner. A harness puts less pressure on the dog's neck than a collar, and won't mat or pull on your Shih Tzu's long hair. These dogs are very energetic, so constantly pulling on a collar can lead to a collapsed trachea. "...Some people believe the reason is necessary to get dog training tips preceding to getting their pets. Lots of people may find this fascinating but a lot of people may recognize that this is a excellent tip to follow. The situation with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to be cautious of them. Eventually, they would probably get away from their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people understand what they need to take care of and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These hints could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to carry out correct dog training, you will get pleasure from a lifetime of comfortable friendship with your ".... Puppies should start leash training at around eight weeks of age.

Instructions

    1

Select a harness with a chest strap that goes between the dog's front legs. You can judge the fit of the harness by slipping two fingers underneath. If you can't get both fingers under the straps, it is too tight.

    2

Reward the puppy with treats and praise when you put on the harness. The puppy may not like the feel of the harness at first, but most soon get used to it. Allow the puppy to wear it for a day or two until they are used to the feeling.

    3

Clip a leash to the D-ring on the back of the harness once the puppy is used to wearing it. Allow the puppy to drag the leash around. This will allow the puppy to get used to the feeling of pressure on the leash.

    4

Pick up the leash when the puppy is used to dragging it around. Do not drag or pull on the leash, simply follow the puppy around as it roams. Once the puppy is used to the idea of you on the other end of the leash, it's time to get them to follow you.

    5

Encourage the puppy to follow you while on the leash using treats and praise. When the puppy tries to run away from you, simply stop and hold the leash. The puppy will soon learn that the discomfort and restraint is a result of her own actions.

How to Stop Dogs From Crying in the Car

How to Stop Dogs From Crying in the Car

Crying is to humans what whining is to dogs. Crying usually signals to other humans that something is amiss and whining usually serves the same purpose for dogs. Sometimes, however, whining is simply a way of getting attention. Dog owners usually respond to attention-seeking whining either by trying to soothe the dog or by scolding it. Either way, the behavior is reinforced because the dog achieved what it set out to do -- get the owner's attention. Getting a dog to stop whining in a car involves isolating the cause and addressing it accordingly.

Instructions

    1

Ask a veterinarian about trying medication for motion sickness, as your dog may be whining because it is car sick. If the dog doesn't whine in the car after taking medicine, then the whining was likely due to car sickness.

If the dog doesn't whine when you get back in the car, it was probably just bored.

    3

Exercise your dog before the car ride. Tired dogs are less likely to whine than well-rested dogs.

    4

Ignore attention-seeking whining. Teach your dog to not whine in the car by rewarding it for when it is quiet.

    5

Seek professional help if, in addition to whining, your dog displays other signs of anxiousness such as pacing, circling and licking. Anxiety disorders can be treated with medications. It's possible your dog has a phobia of cars because of some past experience.
