How to Get Your Dog to Release a Toy

How to Get Your Dog to Release a Toy

If you want to get your dog to release a toy, you have to offer him something he'll want even more. While your dog may love hearing you praise him warmly and feeling you pet him affectionately, additional positive reinforcement may be needed to get him to drop a toy he's holding. Food is a highly effective dog-training tool if used consistently. When using food to motivate your dog, it's best to conduct a training session at a time of day when your dog is likely to be hungry and almost ready for his next meal.

Instructions

    1

Toss around your dog's toy to get him interested in it. Make sure the dog treats are in another room. Once your dog has possession of his toy and won't release it, leave the room to get a handful of dog treats.

    2

Approach your dog, holding a treat for him to see. If he immediately begins to drop his toy and come toward you for the treat, say, "Drop it" as soon as he begins to release his toy. Give your dog the treat and immediately lavish him with verbal praise while petting him. Repeat this sequence of steps at least three more times and then every day, again, for about a week.

    3

Try persuading your dog to release his toy without receiving a food treat. After about a week of practicing with food treats, allow your dog to take possession of his toy for a few minutes. Stand in front of him and say, "Drop it," in a firm voice. Repeat the command, if necessary. Your dog should release his toy and approach you. Warmly praise him, petting him affectionately for obeying.

    4

Increase the value of the treat if your dog resists releasing his toy. "...Some people believe the reason is necessary to get dog training tips preceding to getting their pets. Some individuals may find this interesting but a lot of people can recognize that this is a wonderful tip to follow. The situation with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to take care of them. Finally, they would get away from their pets in order to bring back their old lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they should consider and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These tips will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to carry out correct dog training, you will get pleasure from a lifetime of comfortable a relationship with your ".... Use peanut butter or real meat to make the treat more enticing.

    5

Assist your dog in releasing the toy if necessary. Some dogs are very possessive and will not surrender their toys easily. Hold out the treat and gently approach your dog, moving the treat closer to his mouth. Gently take hold of the toy with your free hand while moving the treat right in front of the dog's mouth. Say, "Drop it," in a firm voice; while pulling the toy slowly and lightly. Praise your dog effusively when he opens his mouth to release the toy and eat the treat. Repeat this scenario several times and then every day, again, for about a week before attempting to train without food treats.

    6

Use a food treat again, after your dog demonstrates he can release his dog toy on command without a food treat. Continue the training session for a few times each day, using plenty of verbal reinforcement and physical affection each time. Use food treats only every other time, or every few times. You can eventually persuade your dog to release a toy, on command, without using food treats.

How to Agility-Train a Miniature Schnauzer

How to Agility-Train a Miniature Schnauzer

Miniature schnauzers are small dogs that have several attributes that lend to ease in agility training. These dogs are bright and eager to please. They have short strides and can make tight turns, which are positives that make up for what they may lack in speed. Keep a positive attitude while training, and remember that agility tasks are best learned by your dog when it has fun during the training.

Instructions

    1

Engage in obedience training for your miniature schnauzer before its first birthday. Agility training starts at 12 months, and obedience is a requirement for success. Agility competition starts at 18 months of age.

    2

Set up training posts for your dog to start learning to weave. This is the most difficult agility task and takes the longest to learn. Training posts are a set of posts that are close together, but far enough apart for your dog to go through without weaving. Over the weeks of training, the posts are pushed closer and closer together until the dog is weaving through them slalom style.

    3

Reward your dog with each successful attempt at an agility task. Praise and a treat are appropriate rewards.

    4

Work with your dog on learning the skills necessary for jumps, the see-saw, tunnels and other agility course tasks. Teach the miniature schnauzer from the start to touch its marks at the end of each task, rewarding it for its behavior.

    5

Contact a local agility training club for access to professionals or those with experience in training. "...Some people consider that it can be essential to get dog training tips prior to acquiring their pets. Many people could find this exciting but a lot of people could concur that this is a really good tip to follow. The condition with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they may be not suitable to take care of them. Ultimately, they could depart their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people understand what they have to deal with and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These hints may be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to carry out proper dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... It is important not to train your dog in poor technique, as reversing that training is very difficult. Books about agility training are also available.

    6

Be consistent during training. Choose a reward system and be sure that everyone who works with your dog uses the same system to avoid confusion. Keep a positive attitude and make agility training into play for your dog so that it will stay interested and respond positively.

How to Adjust Switches on an Innotek FS-15 Transmitter

How to Adjust Switches on an Innotek FS-15 Transmitter

Dog training systems sometimes include a transmitter that applies stimulation in a light shock to your dog's collar. The Innotek FS-15 is basic dog training aid that is adjustable for the strength of the reprimand and can include or exclude a training tone. "...Some people believe the reason is essential to get dog training tips preceding to getting their pets. Lots of people might discover this fascinating but a lot of people could agree that this is a really good tip to follow. The condition with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they may be not suitable to take care of them. Eventually, they would get away from their pets in order to reestablish their past lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they need to handle and if they have the time to train their dogs. These tips may be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to conduct appropriate dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of comfortable friendship with your ".... These are designed to help you adjust your pet's behavior, preventing them from running away, chewing on furniture and digging holes in the yard.

Instructions

Opening the Transmitter

    1

Hold the transmitter face down in one hand with the battery compartment facing up and the antenna facing down.

    2

Place a small flat-head screwdriver in the battery compartment door slot. Rotate the screwdriver handle down to open the battery compartment door.

    3

Observe the eight switches labeled from left to right as 1 through 8.

Setting Stimulation Levels

    4

Observe the position of switches 1 through 3. These three switches adjust in the up or down position to create no stimulation up to a level-seven stimulation.

    5

Turn the switches in an up or down position to the level of stimulation you desire according to the chart in the next step.

    6

Position all three switches up for no stimulation.

Position switch 1 up and switches 2 and 3 down for level 1 stimulation.

Push switch 1 and 3 up and switch 2 down for level 2 stimulation.

Place switches 1 and 2 down and switch 3 up for level 3 stimulation.

Position switches 1 and 2 up and switch 3 down for level 4 stimulation.

Push switches 1 and 3 down and switch 2 up for level 5 stimulation.

Place switches 2 and 3 down and switch 1 up for level 6 stimulation.

Position all three switches down for level 7 stimulation.

Setting Tone Options

    7

Observe the switches marked 4 and 5. Push both switches up toward the battery to include no tone with stimulation in the dog collar.

    8

Move switch 4 up and switch 5 down for tone and stimulation simultaneously.

    9

Move both switches down for a tone first and then stimulation.

Adjusting the ID Code

    10

Observe the three switches numbered 6, 7 and 8. The transmitter uses a radio wave to reach the receiver. If a nearby neighbor uses the same ID code, it can interfere with your training device.

    11

Turn any of the three switches in an opposite direction from the current direction to change your ID code.

    12

Hold the red dot on the receiver and the transmitter together until the receiver light glows green and then turns amber. Move the two components apart. Press the transmitter button and the receiver will pulse red and deliver stimulation. The two parts will now work together with the new ID code.

How to Get My Rottweiler to Drop Things From His Mouth

How to Get My Rottweiler to Drop Things From His Mouth

The Rottweiler is a large, strong dog that requires a lot of attention and sufficient training to be properly socialized and comfortable in different situations. "...Many people think the reason is crucial to get dog training tips prior to having their pets. Lots of people might find this interesting but a lot of people could recognize that this is a really good tip to follow. The challenge with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to take care of them. Eventually, they could give up their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. Through the time to carry out proper dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... A typical Rottweiler weighs 100 pounds or more, so trying to coerce him can be intimidating, including when trying to get him to drop an item in his mouth. With some simple techniques, though, you can confidently train him and positively reinforce your relationship with your dog.

Instructions

    1

Offer your Rottweiler a treat or a toy in return for the item in its mouth. Choose something the dog really loves, such as a piece of hot dog or cheese. Say, "Drop it" as you offer the treat or toy to the dog.

    2

Grab a toy the dog loves and play with it. Run away from the dog with it, making it think you have something better or more interesting than the item the dog has in its mouth.

    3

Praise your Rottweiler when it is playing with dog toys or practicing good behavior. If you pay attention to your dog and praise it while it is behaving properly, the dog will want to repeat the behavior.

    4
Praise your Rottweiler when it behaves properly.

Throw treats down on the floor near the Rottweiler if nothing else works. The dog will then drop the item. As he goes to eat the treats, cover the discarded item with your foot and then pick it up.

How to Train Coonhound Pups

How to Train Coonhound Pups

Coonhounds are hunting dogs and pets, but training a coonhound puppy is a difficult, often frustrating process. New owners may discover that coonhound puppies tend to learn and mature more slowly than many other breeds. They have a high amount of energy, and this can make training them quite a task. However, if done properly, you can train your coonhound and earn the animal's respect and affection. The relationship you'll have with your coonhound will make the effort well worth it.

Instructions

    1

Train your puppy to walk on a leash by attaching the leash to the puppy's collar and letting the animal drag it around inside the home while supervised. Once the puppy is used to the weight of the leash, try holding it and letting him guide you. When he is accustomed to this, begin taking him on regular walks. Coonhounds require a large amount of exercise and must be walked daily to be healthy and happy.

    2

Introduce your puppy to the scent of raccoons by buying a container of raccoon scent from a hunting store and using it to mark an old cloth or rag. Tie the rag to the end of a rope and let your puppy examine the scent and become interested. Then drag the cloth across your yard, hiding it behind something. Let the puppy follow the scent and when she finds the rag, reward her with treats and affection.

    3

Increase the difficulty of tracking by dragging the scented cloth to a tree, then placing it up high in the branches. Let your puppy follow the scent and if he stops under the tree, wait for him to bark and indicate that he has found the "raccoon." Reward him with a treat and affection. Continue to increase the difficulty by making each trail longer and adding more obstacles.

    4

Show your puppy the woods by taking her to an area that is known to have raccoons, far from busy roads. Encourage your puppy to lead you on her leash and explore. If she finds a raccoon's scent, let her follow it to completion and reward her for the correct behavior. If she follows the incorrect scent, give her a gentle but firm verbal correction and lead her away.

    5

Practice firing your gun with your puppy nearby. "...Many people think the reason is crucial to get dog training tips prior to getting their pets. Lots of people may find this interesting but a lot of people might recognize that this is a wonderful tip to follow. The problem with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are simply not suitable to be aware of them. Eventually, they could get away from their pets in order to retrieve their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people know what they have to take care of and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These hints could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to execute proper dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of peaceful a relationship with your ".... Coonhounds must get used to the sound and smell of guns early in life. Begin in an environment the puppy is used to, then slowly introduce him to guns being fired in the wild.

    6

Take your puppy on a hunt with other coonhounds. If you don't have other dogs, go hunting in a group. Your puppy will learn how to behave on a hunt from the other dogs.
