How Can I Teach My Dog to Tell Me When it Wants to Go Out?

How Can I Teach My Dog to Tell Me When it Wants to Go Out?

All dogs need to be house-trained properly in order to avoid accidents in the house. It's easiest to teach dogs to tell you when to go out when they are still puppies, but adult dogs can learn house-training as well. It is important to stick to the same routine and schedule consistent times when going out with your dog so that it can let you know when a walk is necessary.

Instructions

    1

Set up a dog walking schedule which you can stick to every day. This may be difficult if you leave the house at different times each day due to work, school or other important tasks. If possible, stick to a consistent schedule with about 3 to 4 walks a day, on weekdays and weekends. For example, if you walk your dog at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., don't change this schedule on the weekends in order to sleep in. This will confuse your dog.

    2

Exit the same door each time you walk your dog to avoid confusion. "...Lots of individuals assume that it is essential to get dog training tips earlier to having their pets. Some individuals could find this exciting but a lot of people can agree that this is a excellent tip to follow. The condition with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are simply not suitable to take care of them. In the end, they would give up their pets in order to retrieve their old lives. These dog training tips can let people find out what they should handle and if they have the time to train their dogs. These tips will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to carry out suitable dog training, you will take pleasure in a lifetime of relaxed a relationship with your ".... That way, your dog will know that this door is the way to go out, and will let you know by looking at it or sitting near it when it has to go out.

    3

Choose a command which alerts your dog that it's time to go out, and stick to it. You may say "Let's go," "Walk," "Come on," or other similar commands which your dog will learn to associate with walks. Choose a command which you can use only to symbolize a walk.

    4

Give your dog treats after a walk so that it knows that this is the right way. If you catch your dog urinating inside, don't yell, scream or scold. Instead, startle your dog by clapping loudly. Take your dog out immediately and give a treat after the walk.

    5

Teach your dog a communication tool which it can use to tell you to go out. Some dogs bark, scratch the door or whine when they want to go out. According to the ASPCA, a good communication tool is a bell which you can hang on the doorknob of the door you use when going on a walk. Hang a bell or a few small bells on the doorknob and show them to your dog. You may need to rub treats against the bells for your dog to notice them. Use a command such as "touch" while showing your dog the bells so it touches them. Then, immediately go for a walk and give your dog a treat. Soon, your dog will know that touching the bell symbolizes a walk and a praise with a treat. It may take some time for your dog to understand this though, so be patient.

    6

Visit a veterinarian with your dog if it continues to urinate inside the house at various times during the day. The urinating may be related to a medical condition. If you are unable to deal with the problem on your own, you may attend house-training classes with your dog to receive assistance from a professional.

How to Keep a Dog Sleeping All Night

How to Keep a Dog Sleeping All Night

Training a dog to sleep through the night with their owner will not only be beneficial to the owner, but will ensure a calmer, more relaxed dog as well. Knowing your dogs' habits and careful observation of your dog is key to this process. Make sure your dog is on a schedule, is well fed at appropriate times, and receives plenty of exercise. Anxiety can sometimes play a role in the dog not sleeping through the night, so eliminating as many distractions as possible is an important step if the dog suffers from anxiety.

Instructions

    1

Observe your dog for a week, including his eating, sleeping and exercise patterns. Write all of the findings in the notebook with times of each. Also observe their behavior as bedtime approaches for anxiety issues.

    2

Build a comfortable sleeping space for your dog. Use a crate, or dog bed, and provide plenty of blankets to ensure your dog has a soft warm place for rest.

    3

Set a schedule for the dog. Younger dogs require more caloric intake, while older dogs only need as much food as necessary for their daily activity. Set their feeding times to be at spaced throughout the day, with the last one falling at least four to six hours before bedtime.

    4

Exercise the dog at least 40 minutes per day. This can include walks, running, and general play. Some dogs require more exercise than others due to their playful nature, so adjust accordingly. Exercise after the last meal of the day is the most important time as dogs are very energetic after a meal.

    5

Set a specific bedtime for both the dog and owner. "...Most people think that it can be necessary to get dog training tips prior to acquiring their pets. Many people might discover this exciting but a lot of people could concur that this is a wonderful tip to follow. The challenge with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be cautious of them. Ultimately, they would probably give up their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. By using the time to perform appropriate dog training, you will take pleasure in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... How to Teach a Puppy Potty Training

How to Teach a Puppy Potty Training

Buying a puppy is an exciting event for the whole family---nothing quite compares to the boundless energy, curiosity and enthusiasm of a new puppy. However, a new puppy can also be a lot of work. "...Some people think that it can be necessary to get dog training tips earlier to acquiring their pets. A number of people could find this fascinating but a lot of people may agree that this is a great tip to follow. The issue with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are simply not suitable to be cautious of them. Eventually, they would probably depart their pets in order to bring back their past lives. These dog training tips can let people know what they need to handle and if they have the time to coach their dogs. These guidelines will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to conduct proper dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of peaceful a relationship with your ".... One of the most important responsibilities for a new puppy owner is potty training. Teaching your puppy to go to the bathroom outdoors has obvious benefits for the human inhabitants of the house or apartment, but it is also important for the happiness and well-being of the puppy.

Instructions

    1

Keep your puppy caged or crated at all times when no one is available to watch it. This will prevent the formation of bad potty habits, which can be difficult to break later.

    2

Feed your puppy on a regular schedule. While you are potty training your puppy, try to keep yourself on a regular bedtime and wake-up schedule as well. Your puppy will adjust to your schedule. Feed your puppy dry dog food, which will keep its stools firmer in the event that you have to clean up an accident.

    3

Feed your puppy at least four hours before bedtime, and remove his or her water two hours before bedtime. At all other times, make sure that your puppy has access to plenty of clean water.

    4

Take your puppy outside to your designated potty area first thing every morning, right before bed, whenever he or she wakes up from a nap, and after an active play session. Reward your puppy with lots of love and affection when it uses the designated potty area during a bathroom trip. Pick up excrement from the potty area immediately to keep the area appealing for the puppy to visit.

    5

Avoid playing with your puppy during a potty trip until after it goes to the bathroom. Do not return inside immediately after a potty trip. The puppy may require more than one session to finish completely.

    6

Watch and listen to your puppy for clues. If you hear it moving around in the early morning hours, get up and take the dog outside to the designated potty area. If the puppy starts to turn in circles, sniff the floor, or arch its back, pick the puppy up and carry it to the potty area. The puppy may have difficulty controlling its bowels while on the ground.

Training for Blind and Deaf Dogs

Training for Blind and Deaf Dogs

Training a dog that is blind, deaf, or both, will require a great deal of patience and time to get to know the dog's limitations. Desensitization is the most most important part of training. "...Lots of individuals believe that it can be essential to get dog training tips prior to getting their pets. Lots of people might find this exciting but a lot of people might concur that this is a top notch tip to follow. The problem with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they may be not suitable to take care of them. In the end, they might get away from their pets in order to reestablish their old lives. These dog training tips can let people learn what they should consider and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These suggestions will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to carry out correct dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of peaceful companionship with your ".... A startled blind or deaf dog may resort to aggression when frightened. Training will be slow, but not impossible, when a sense of trust is established.

Training for Blind Dogs

For blind dogs, training should be done on a leash, so the dog can be controlled. The area should be an open space, and preferably an area in which the dog is familiar. Since the dog is blind, you will have to rely solely on voice commands. Timing is important to catch the correct behavior.

Training for Deaf Dogs

Training deaf dogs will require the use of visual commands, usually done with the hands. Before training, you will need to get and keep your dog's attention. Some recommend stomping, waving, tossing an object near the dog, or turning on and off lights. There are also vibrating collars that can be placed on the dog--these do not hurt the dog.

Training a Deaf and Blind Dog

A dog that is both deaf and blind is usually the result of either old age or bad breeding. Training dogs like these will be limited, but not impossible. A special touch that is different than a pet or scratch will be used to express a command.

How to Get My Puppy to React to the Word Potty

How to Get My Puppy to React to the Word Potty

Even though dogs don't speak English, they do learn to pick up on certain words associated with training. "Potty" is one such word, along with words such as "treat," "outside," "bye-bye," "sit," "stay" or other words you may use during certain situations. Puppies are like human babies; it takes time for them to associate the word with the activity or behavior. "...Many people assume the reason is crucial to get dog training tips prior to acquiring their pets. Some people may find this fascinating but a lot of people may recognize that this is a top notch tip to follow. If you're trying to train your puppy to tell you when it needs to eliminate outside or to be able to eliminate on command, exercise patience and consistency during house-training.

Instructions

    1

Take your young puppy out first thing in the morning, last thing before bed, right before you confine it, after feeding or play time and every hour for every month of its age.

A two-month old puppy needs to eliminate every two hours.

    2

Say the word "potty" in an excited, happy voice every time you pick up the puppy or otherwise take it outside.

    3

Allow the puppy to completely eliminate outside; be patient, many times puppies can't completely eliminate during one squat.

    4

Praise the puppy lavishly after it's done its business.

Repeat the word "potty" in a high-pitched, excited voice while playing, patting and feeding the puppy a small treat.

    5

Place a small bell on the door and take the puppy's paw and ring it while saying "potty" right before taking the puppy outside to eliminate.

Your puppy should learn that ringing the bell means "time to go potty" and start ringing it on its own to let you know.

    6

Watch for signs that your puppy has to eliminate during house-training.

Signs may include walking and sniffing around in circles or squatting.

    7

Say "potty?" in your happy voice when the puppy does this, while scooping up the puppy and taking it outdoors to eliminate.
