How to Make a Puppy Quit Nipping & Jumping

How to Make a Puppy Quit Nipping & Jumping

Puppy training is most effective when you start as soon as you bring your new pet into your home. The key is to be consistent with discipline by using the same methods over and over until the lesson is effectively learned. Everybody in the house needs to know the rules and participate to achieve the best result. If you are patient and diligent, you are sure to have the most well-mannered dog on the block.

Instructions

    1

Refuse to play tug of war with your puppy until you have effectively broken her of biting and nipping at you. This game inadvertently encourages her to bite around your hand, and teaches her that you are on the same level as her and she won't respect you as her master.

    2

Stop playing immediately with your puppy when she does nip at you, say "No," firmly without yelling and then turn your back on her. "...Many individuals think the reason is essential to get dog training tips earlier to acquiring their pets. Some individuals might find this exciting but a lot of people may agree that this is a very good tip to follow. The issue with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to be cautious of them. Finally, they could depart their pets in order to retrieve their past lives. These dog training tips can let people find out what they have to consider and if they have the time to train their dogs. These suggestions may be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to carry out correct dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... Dogs communicate through body language and it is most effective to teach them in a way that they understand. Your puppy will learn quickly when the fun time stops.

    3

Provide an abundance of appropriate chew toys for the puppy. They have a natural instinct to chew and bite, so give her plenty of alternatives to choose from rather than your hand. The goal is to teach boundaries and rules through play.

    4

Keep your arms closed or down when the puppy jumps up on you. Puppies jump around because they are excited and want your attention. When they do this, put your hands out so that when she jumps you are blocking her off, and say "No." It might seem cruel the first few times if she bangs into your hands hard, but this is body language that she understands.

How to Train Saint Bernard Puppies Not to Jump

How to Train Saint Bernard Puppies Not to Jump

The Saint Bernard is a dog that has been recognized in the American Kennel Club since 1885. While generally mellow and easygoing, a young Saint Bernard has the playful exuberance of any other breed of puppy. Training your Saint Bernard puppy not to jump is very important, so the dog will be obedient when it grows to its adult size of 130 to 180 pounds. With some persistent training and positive reinforcement, your Saint Bernard will greet you in a calm, obedient manner.

Instructions

    1

Approach your dog. "...Some people believe that it can be crucial to get dog training tips preceding to acquiring their pets. Some individuals might discover this interesting but a lot of people might concur that this is a really good tip to follow. The challenge with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be cautious of them. Ultimately, they could get away from their pets in order to bring back their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people learn what they have got to consider and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These guidelines will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to execute appropriate dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of relaxed friendship with your ".... When the dog jumps up, turn around and walk away, as if you were ignoring your dog. Walk through a door and close it, with the dog on the other side of the door.

    2

Wait for 30 seconds to one minute, and then open the door again. If your dog jumps on you, turn again and walk away a second time. Repeat this until your dog stops jumping.

    3

Praise your dog when you walk through the door and your dog doesn't jump. Reinforcing positive behavior will teach your dog faster than using a "no" or "off" command once the dog has already jumped.

How to Teach My Dog to Fetch Me a Soda

How to Teach My Dog to Fetch Me a Soda

There are times in any man's life when the thought of getting off a couch to get a drink from the refrigerator seems like too much effort. With training and patience, however, it's possible to have your dog do all the hard work for you. You'll need to break down the trick into smaller tasks to get your dog started, but once your pet has mastered each one, you'll be able to join them together.

Instructions

Opening the Refrigerator Door

    1

Tie a rope to your refrigerator handle. If you have a tug toy that your dog enjoys playing with, this would also work well.

    2

Take your dog into the kitchen and give it the command "get me a soda" while encouraging it to play with the rope. Reinforce this behavior by giving it a treat every time it bites the rope.

    3

Step the task up a level by encouraging your pet to pull the rope, thus opening the refrigerator door, every time you give your soda command. Again, reinforce this behavior with a treat.

Selecting a Soda

    4

Drain a soda can and use it when you play fetch with your dog. This will get the canine used to having a can in its mouth.

    5

Keep your sodas on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator so that the dog can easily reach them. If you have a big enough refrigerator, it's a good idea to use this shelf only for soda.

    6

Give the order to "fetch" while standing with the refrigerator door open. Hopefully your dog will go for the soda can but if it doesn't, you can help the dog understand by repeating "fetch," picking up the can and moving it towards your dog's mouth.

    7

Give your dog the "drop" command so that it places the can in your hand. One way to convince a dog to drop something is to offer it something else -- such as a treat -- that it would rather have in its mouth. Once it lets go of the can, give him another treat so it learns that letting go of the can is a good thing.

    8

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until your dog can pick up a soda can and drop it in your hand with only a verbal instruction. As your dog gets used to the action, move farther away from the refrigerator and repeat. Keep going until you're on your couch or sitting by your computer, or wherever you're most likely to want the soda delivered.

Closing the Refrigerator Door

    9

Open the refrigerator and dangle a treat above the door. This will encourage your dog to stand on its hind legs and place its front paws on the door for support. This will naturally close the door. Say "close it" while doing this so your dog learns what it is doing.

    10

Reward your dog with a treat every time it closes the door.

    11

Repeat this trick until you feel your dog is comfortable with the action and fully understands what to do.

Combining All the Actions

    12

Stand in the kitchen and tell your dog to "get me a soda." This should make it open the door.

    13

Tell it to "fetch" while the door is open. It should take out a soda and put it in your hand. "...Many people think that it must be essential to get dog training tips earlier to acquiring their pets. Lots of people could find this fascinating but a lot of people might concur that this is a really good tip to follow. The situation with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be cautious of them. In the end, they could abandon their pets in order to bring back their old lives. These dog training tips can let people learn what they have to deal with and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These tips could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to carry out appropriate dog training, you will get pleasure from a lifetime of relaxed a relationship with your ".... Reward the dog for its work.

    14

Repeat these steps but this time add "close it" before you reward the dog. Give it more treats than normal so it realizes that the full procedure is a bigger deal.

    15

Move farther away and say "get me a soda." If the dog opens the refrigerator door and nothing else, repeat the "fetch" and "close it" instructions, only rewarding the dog after closing the door. Soon the dog will learn to combine the three steps.

How to Donate Dogs for Search & Rescue

How to Donate Dogs for Search & Rescue

Search and rescue teams utilize dogs to assist in finding and rescuing lost individuals: a child that has wandered from the house, a missing person, those lost in wilderness areas or in transport disasters such as plane crashes. The use of canines in search and rescue is particularly important as dogs have an acute sense of smell and can pick up and follow a person's scent. Search and rescue dogs can be of any breed, although the majority are from work or sporting breeds such as Doberman pinschers, golden retrievers, Labradors and German shepherds.

Instructions

    1

Click on the NASAR website, in the Search and Rescue Dog Classifieds section (see References for direct link).

    2

Click on "Place an Ad," located on the left-hand side of the page. Placing an advertisement on NASAR's website to donate your puppy or adult dog connects you with individuals in NASAR's trained handler community who are looking for dogs.

    3

Write a title for the classified ad such as "Looking to donate my German shepherd to NASAR's team."

    4

Fill in the body of the classified, explaining the characteristics of your dog (breed, age, experience and personality) and why you would like to donate the dog to NASAR. Please note that NASAR only accepts dogs that have not been through their rigorous SAR training. NASAR will fully train your dog for search and rescue.

    5

Find and click on the state that you live in. Fill in your telephone number, preferably your cell number rather than your home number.

    6

Fill in your personal email address in the bottom space. Click on "Submit" to send in the classified advertisement. Wait for NASAR's phone or email confirmation that your dog has been accepted into the NASAR program.
