How to Find Dog Agility Training Centers

How to Find Dog Agility Training Centers

Dog agility training has many benefits. Not only is it a way to provide your dog with a different form of exercise, but it is also a way to channel energy into obedience. Agility is a very fast-paced activity that teaches dogs to do a variety of activities, such as walking through tunnels, jumping, weaving through poles and balancing on tables, while they are completing a course. Teaching a dog requires both patience and persistence, as well as a good training club that will support and encourage you and your pet.

Instructions

    1

Research dog agility. This is a topic covered frequently in dog magazines and on dog websites, and there are a wide range of books dedicated to the subject. This research will show you what to expect from dog agility and may give you advice on what type of agility (sanctioned, or just for fun) is best for your dog's breed.

    2

Discuss your plans with your dog's veterinarian. Your vet can check that your dog is fit and healthy enough to start active training and give you information on preventing injuries. Your vet is also likely to be able to recommend local training centers.

    3

Inquire with your breed's club about agility training. "...Some people consider that it can be essential to get dog training tips preceding to acquiring their pets. Some individuals may find this fascinating but a lot of people could concur that this is a really good tip to follow. The problem with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to take care of them. In the end, they would depart their pets in order to bring back their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they have to take care of and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These hints could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to carry out appropriate dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of peaceful a relationship with your ".... These clubs keep a lot of information on their specific breed and should be able to suggest an agility center near you. They may also know of specialized agility training for your breed. The contact details for your breed's club can usually be found online.

    4

Contact a behavioral specialist. Your vet will be able to refer you to a trained specialist, who you can ask for advice on taking your dog to agility and who may be able to refer you to an agility center. Prices are usually reduced for dogs that are referred, and a behavioral specialist is likely to know where the best agility teachers are, as the specialist will have a close working relationship with them.

    5

Inquire with an agility competition's board to find out about classes in your area. The board will have a list of places that enter dogs from your area. Contact all the agility competitions, or choose one or two that suit what you wish to do with your dog.

    6

Check local message boards and magazines for ads about dog training and agility classes. These can sometimes be run by local residents and franchises and are advertised locally.

Tricks to Train a Dog

Tricks to Train a Dog

Dogs in general are eager to learn from and please their owners. This makes teaching them fun tricks an easy way to bond and keep them active. You don't need any fancy or expensive equipment for some basic tricks. Depending on your dog-training skills and your dog's temperament, you may be able to teach all of these tricks in a few days, or it may take a few weeks. Either way, you should enjoy and learn from the experience.

Sit

Sitting on command is one of the most basic commands that any dog should know. It's easy for owners to teach and easy for dogs to learn, making it a good way to practice training. It also allows you to bring your dog's focus onto you when you start to teach more advanced tricks. The sit behavior is taught by holding a dog treat in your closed fist over your dog's head. As the dog looks up to the treat, he usually automatically sits down to get a better view. The cue becomes a closed fist and the word "sit."

Circle

The circle behavior is where the dog spins in a complete circle. Start by having the dog stand or sit in front of you. Then hold a treat in your hand and close to the dog's nose. While saying "circle," have the dog follow the treat in a circle. Make sure your hand with the treat is always at the same level as your dog's nose until this behavior is well-trained. Raise your hand with the treat too high and you will confuse your dog into sitting or rising up. The cue becomes the word "circle" and your hand making a circle motion.

Rise Up

For this one, the dog sits or stands on his back legs while raising his front legs up in the air. "...Lots of individuals assume that it is essential to get dog training tips prior to having their pets. Some individuals could find this interesting but a lot of people might agree that this is a great tip to follow. The condition with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be aware of them. Finally, they could depart their pets in order to reestablish their past lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they have got to deal with and if they have the time to train their dogs. These tips may be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to carry out proper dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of comfortable a relationship with your ".... Small dogs tend to do better at this as they can sustain the position longer. To give the cue, hold a treat in your hand while giving a thumbs-up just above your dog's nose. Then slowly raise your hand straight up to encourage your dog to follow the treat up. The cue becomes a thumbs-up signal and the phrase "rise up."

Going Through Legs

This trick is often easier to teach after the dog already knows "circle" because the concept is similar. With this trick you stand with your legs apart to make a tunnel and your dog walks through. To give the cue, point towards the opening and say "go through." To help the dog understand what you want, toss a treat for him to follow in the direction you want him to go.

How to Avoid Dog Bites at Home

How to Avoid Dog Bites at Home

Dogs are wonderful pets and great to have in the family. However, the fear of dog bites is a universal one in every household. The fear is even greater in households with small children. There are several things you can do to help socialize your dog when it is growing up and throughout its life to help avoid getting bitten at home.

Instructions

    1

Socialize your dog as early as possible. "...Many individuals think the reason is essential to get dog training tips earlier to getting their pets. Lots of people might find this exciting but a lot of people might recognize that this is a excellent tip to follow. The condition with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are simply not suitable to be cautious of them. Ultimately, they could get away from their pets in order to bring back their old lives. These dog training tips can let people find out what they have got to take care of and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These guidelines will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to execute correct dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of comfortable a relationship with your ".... All puppies should be socialized before the age of 16 weeks. Socialization means exposing your puppy to everything it will encounter as an adult dog. This allows your puppy to grow up to become well adjusted to all situations and be less likely to bite as an adult. Let your dog be around all sorts of other dogs and humans.

    2

Enroll your dog in an obedience or socialization class. This has two positive advantages. Your dog not only gets the socialization that it needs and exposure to different dogs and humans, but it also learns some life lessons that will stick with it throughout its lifetime. Your dog will learn tricks and commands, such as how to sit and come when called. This is a great advantage to have in a situation where your dog becomes uneasy or upset because it will calm the dog when you take control of the situation and give it a command.

    3

Teach your children along with your dog. Many dogs bite because they are upset from being abused by children. While children don't mean to hurt the dog, they are curious about the dog and what will happen if they touch certain parts of the dog or do certain things to the dog. Some things that can happen is that a curious child can put their fingers in the dog's eyes or ears, or carry the dog in an improper way. These are not pleasant experiences for the dog. If or when the dog cannot get away from the child, the dog may become upset and possibly bite. This is an important reason as to why you should never leave your dog alone with a child and why you should teach your child early on the proper way to handle the dog and treat it with respect.

    4

Touch your dog as much as possible while it is growing up. This includes bathing and grooming your dog often so it is used to it when it is an adult. Many dogs are not exposed to grooming till they are adults because their coats are usually not developed enough to groom when they are puppies. This can cause the dog to become upset to the unusual experience. Hence, touch and groom often so that the situation is not anything new when the dog is an adult. Touching as often as possible will also make the dog less nervous when a stranger comes up pet it. Dogs are more liable to bite when strangers come up to pet it if they have not been touched much as a puppy.
