How to Get Dogs Into Showers

How to Get Dogs Into Showers

Many dog owners choose to bathe their own dogs between visits to the groomers. Dogs are not born afraid of the shower, but dogs that have had a bad experience during bath time, such as falling, may be fearful of taking another bath. However, taking the time to work with your dog to overcome showering fears or to introduce a new bathing routine makes bath time less stressful for both dog and handler.

What to Feed a Dog So It Doesn't Lick Poop

Early intervention can prevent stool licking from becoming a habit.
Early intervention can prevent stool licking from becoming a habit.

Addition of Unpleasant Taste

Certain items, when added to the dog's food, might make the stool taste unpleasant and deter the dog from eating it. These remedies include enzyme supplements, papaya, yogurt, cottage cheese, pineapple and crushed breath mints. For best results, the additive has to be mixed with wet food or moistened dry food and left to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

Complete Change in Diet

Some dogs eat stool due to medical problems, and a change in diet could fix the behavior. The dog could try eating a more digestible food or food with a different protein source. Enzyme supplements that help with nutrient digestion and absorption might also help. If the dog is on a restricted calorie diet, it can switch to a high bulk or high fiber formula.

Bottom Line

According to PetPlace.Com, changing the dog's diet is more successful to prevent the behavior compared using additives to make the stool taste unpleasant. "...Lots of individuals consider that it can be crucial to get dog training tips preceding to acquiring their pets. How to Train Six Dogs at the Same Time

How to Train Six Dogs at the Same Time

Training one dog is difficult. You have to make sure you know its feelings, requirements and personality well enough to treat it accordingly. Training six dogs at the same time, on the other hand, is six times more difficult. Not only do you have to keep your eye on six different personalities, you have to make sure that their personalities do not collide and result in hostility between them. Training six dogs might be difficult, but it is possible.

Instructions

    1

House the dogs in a large, open area. If you have an open basement, make the entire basement a "dog floor." This will allow all of the dogs to have their own personal space and help them to keep their paws off one another. If a dog is cramped, it will become agitated and potentially violent.

    2

Work with one dog at a time at first. When training a dog to do a simple trick, like sitting, you need to be able to get your hands on it. Once it gets the basic command, it will just need a little practice. Practice can be done in a group. Get all of the dogs' attention and tell them to "sit" collectively. Reward the ones that do and keep trying on the ones that do not. If a particular dog has trouble sitting in a group, it might just need more individual attention.

    3

Integrate slow-learning dogs. If a dog seems to not be getting what you are trying to teach it, pair it up with a dog that understands better. The slower-learning dog will learn from the example of the faster-learning dog.

    4

Establish yourself as the dominant alpha -- the pack leader. Dogs think in a pack mentality. They need to know, without a doubt, that you are the one in charge. If a dog acts out or ignores you, punish it immediately so that it has no doubt about your dominance. If the other dogs see you acting dominant toward one of them, they will quickly establish you as the alpha.

    5

Allow a pecking order to be established. Though you might be the alpha, the dogs will eventually settle into a pecking order among themselves. This means that one of the dogs will be something of a leader to the others. This is usually the largest or oldest dog, but an aggressive male dog might establish dominance, even if it is smaller or younger than its peers. "...Some people consider that it is essential to get dog training tips earlier to acquiring their pets. Some individuals might find this exciting but a lot of people might concur that this is a excellent tip to follow. The issue with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they may be not suitable to take care of them. Finally, they could give up their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people know what they have got to consider and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These suggestions could be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By using the time to execute proper dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of relaxed a relationship with your ".... Whining Dog Cures

Whining Dog Cures

Dog whining has many causes, including attention-seeking, anxiety, excitement and pain. Puppies tend to whine more than adult dogs as a reaction to an impending need, such as the need to urinate or defecate, or hunger. When puppies get older they tend to whine less, but some dogs whine in reaction to everything. Whining can be grating and annoying for the dog owner, but there are ways to help cease the whining.

Solve the Problem

Determine the reason for your dog's whining and try to eliminate that reason. If the dog is restless, make sure it has had enough exercise. Take it for a long walk, if necessary, recommends veterinarian Nicholas Dodman from Pet Place. If the dog is bored, provide fun toys and praise it for playing quietly rather than whining. If the dog needs to eliminate, take it outside immediately to avoid an accident. If the dog appears to be in pain, take it to the veterinarian for a checkup. If the dog is anxious, try to determine what is causing the anxiety and eliminate it, if possible. For severe anxiety problems, consult a professional animal behaviorist.

Distraction

Distraction is a good technique for dogs that whine for attention. Rather than reacting to the incessant whining by getting frustrated and yelling, give your dog a toy and encourage it to play quietly and calmly. When your dog whines from excitement, distract it by asking for an incompatible behavior, such as a sit, and reward your dog when it complies.

Ignoring

One of the ways to deal with a whining dog is to ignore it. This works especially well for dogs that whine during crate training, according to the Humane Society of the United States, but also works for dogs that whine for attention. "...Some people consider that it can be crucial to get dog training tips preceding to having their pets. A number of people might discover this exciting but a lot of people may agree that this is a wonderful tip to follow. The situation with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are not suitable to be aware of them. Ultimately, they would probably get away from their pets in order to bring back their past lives. These dog training tips can let people realize what they should take care of and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These hints will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to carry out proper dog training, you will delight in a lifetime of comfortable companionship with your ".... By ignoring the whining, you are choosing not to reinforce the behavior by reacting. Wait until your dog stops whining, even for a second, and praise it, giving a treat if one is at hand. Repeat this enough and your dog will realize that whining does not get attention, but calm, quiet behavior does. It can be difficult to ignore a whining dog, but it is worth it in the long run.
