How Do I Keep My Dog From Eating My Outdoor Plants?

How Do I Keep My Dog From Eating My Outdoor Plants?

According to the ASPCA there are many types of outdoor plants that are potentially toxic to your dog. (see Resources) If your dog has a habit of chewing on outdoor foliage, this can easily become a life threatening situation that must come to a stop as soon as possible. When your dog is in your backyard it is important to take the appropriate precautions that are necessary to keep your dog away from potentially dangerous plants and safe from harm.

Instructions

    1

Set up a fence made of chicken wire around clusters of outdoor plants, flower gardens and other garden plants. Set up the fence so it is high enough to prevent the dog from jumping over it and is one foot in the ground to stop the dog from digging under it to reach the plants.

    2

Create a separate dog run in your yard that is free of plants. Situate it so it is not located near any trees or bushes that your pet can easily reach and chew. Use this as a location where your dog can play and run without the risk of being distracted by outdoor vegetation. "...Lots of individuals consider the reason is essential to get dog training tips earlier to getting their pets. A number of people might discover this exciting but a lot of people might agree that this is a top notch tip to follow. The condition with a number of pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to be cautious of them. Eventually, they might abandon their pets in order to retrieve their old lives. These dog training tips can let people know what they have to consider and if they have the time to teach their dogs. These tips can be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to execute proper dog training, you will get pleasure from a lifetime of peaceful companionship with your ".... Put plenty of chew toys inside of the dog run to meet your dog's need to chew.

    3

Monitor your pet at all times while it is outside. Distract it by engaging in fun activities such as playing fetch or taking your dog for a walk or run. As soon as you see that your pet is beginning to chew on a plant say "No!" in a firm and loud voice. Move your pet from the plant as soon as possible.

    4

Spray bitter apple spray every 2 to 3 days on the leaves of your outdoor plants. The bitter taste will act as a deterrent to your pet and is a safe and non-toxic product to use.

    5

Wet the leaves of you plant and sprinkle them with cayenne or black pepper. Also sprinkle the spices around the plants as a distasteful deterrent.

    6

Put outdoor plants in an elevated box or planter that is out of your dog's reach.

How to Potty Train a 10-Month-Old Yorkie Puppy

How to Potty Train a 10-Month-Old Yorkie Puppy

Potty training is difficult with any dog but it can be especially trying with tiny breeds such as Yorkies. While smaller dogs mature faster, they still have much smaller bladders and cannot "hold it" for as long as some of their larger dog friends. If you are at the end of your rope with your Yorkie puppy, you can try "crate training" to give yourself a bit of help.

Instructions

    1

Purchase a small dog crate. This crate should be just large enough for your Yorkie to stand and lie down in without much extra room.

    2

Place a small treat in the crate and encourage your Yorkie to explore it with the doors open.

    3

Close the crate door after your Yorkie is comfortable getting in and out of the crate. At first you should close the door for a few minutes at a time, without leaving the room.

    4

Add time to your crate closings until the Yorkie is comfortable staying in the crate while you leave the room. "...Many people consider the reason is necessary to get dog training tips earlier to having their pets. Many people may find this fascinating but a lot of people might concur that this is a great tip to follow. The challenge with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they are simply not suitable to be cautious of them. In the end, they would give up their pets in order to retrieve their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people find out what they need to consider and if they have the time to educate their dogs. These tips will be found on Secrets To Dog Training. Through the time to perform correct dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of peaceful companionship with your ".... Dogs will not potty where they sleep, so your puppy will naturally try to hold it as long as he possibly while in the crate.

    5

Take your puppy outside immediately after opening the crate, and then reward him with a treat and praise for going potty outside.

    6

Ignore little accidents. If you catch your Yorkie urinating or defecating in the house, scoop him up and let him finish outside. If you don't catch him, clean up the mess and scold yourself for not paying better attention.

    7

Keep the Yorkie in his crate while you sleep and whenever you need to leave the house. You should never leave a dog in a crate for more than eight hours, and remember that your Yorkie simply may not be able to hold it that long.
