PetSafe Deluxe Instructions

The PetSafe Deluxe collar is a training aid produced by the Radio Systems corporation as a part of their PetSafe brand of products. It controls barking by delivering a small static shock to your dog whenever it detects the noise and movement that accompany vocalization. Designed for small dogs, the product customizes the level of static the dog receives in accordance with the quality and timbre of the bark. The PetSafe Deluxe collar is designed to help you train your dog by decreasing the training and work needed to get your dog to remain silent. Proper setup and maintenance of the collar are vastly important.

Instructions

Turn the module's battery off. This ensures your safety when handling the collar. Turn the control module arrow clockwise with a coin until the arrow on the module aligns with the "Off" label.

Position the contact module, the part that delivers a shock, directly beneath your dog's neck.

Shave the hair on your dog's neck if necessary to maintain constant contact between your dog's neck and the module. This may be needed if your dog has a long or thick coat.

Secure the collar using the snap buckle provided by the manufacturer.

Thread the collar through the metal-pronged buckle to finish securing it around your dog's neck.

Run any excess collar length through the metal loop to keep it secure and out of the way.

Check to ensure your dog has adequate space between his neck and the collar. The appropriate amount of space, as defined by the manufacturer, is one finger's width.

Recheck the fit of the collar after your dog has worn it for several minutes and gets used to wearing it. Dogs may tense up when the collar is first placed, causing a skewed fit.

Measure 4 1/2 inches from the metal buckle. Remove the collar from your dog and trim away the excess material.

Attach your dog's ID tag to the collar. Thread an ID ring through one of the collar's holes. Place the ring and ID tags far enough away from the control module so that the tags do not touch.

Turn the battery control module to the "On" position after it is properly placed around your dog's neck. Use a penny to turn the control counterclockwise, aligning the arrow on the control to the "On" marking.

Note the LED lights. A green light flashing once every five seconds indicates good battery life. A red light flashing three times every five seconds indicates a low battery life. If no LED light flashes, the battery is dead.

Supervise your dog. Some dogs are scared by the shocks and may bark more intensely. Calm your dog to see the most effective results from the collar.

Examine your dog's neck daily. Check for sores, burns, rashes or other abnormalities. Check to ensure the fit is correct. If your dog does not respond to the stimulus, the collar may need to be tightened.

Wash your pet's neck at minimum once weekly to ensure a good contact for the module.

Turn the battery off before performing maintenance on the collar.

Tighten the contact points with a wrench. Check for tightness weekly, as per the manufacturer's instructions.

Clean the contact points on the control module weekly. Swab them with alcohol and allow them to dry before replacing the collar on your dog.
