How To Train Your Puppy To Stop Jumping

Puppies love attention and one way in which puppies get attention is by jumping on people. Jumping may even seem cute when your dog is a puppy, but soon your pet is going to grow into an adult dog. Jumping loses its cuteness when your furry friend is now 70 pounds. In addition to be annoying, a dog that jumps on people may injure them. With consistency and patience, you can train your puppy that jumping on people is not an acceptable behavior.

Instructions

Walk forward when the puppy begins to jump.

Ignore the puppy. Do not say a word. Do not scold it, yell at it or acknowledge it in any way.

Praise the puppy when all four of its feet are on the ground again. Give the puppy the attention it was seeking, once it behaves well.

Repeat this process each time your puppy begins to jump on you.

Teach other family members and friends who spend lots of time with your puppy to respond to the jumping behavior in the same manner.

Put your collar and leash on the puppy.

Ask a friend to approach the puppy.

Speak the command "off" in a firm voice when the puppy begins to jump on the person.

Guide the puppy off the person gently, taking your hands and placing the puppy's paws on the ground. Lead the puppy off to the side and have it sit.
