Instructions

    1

Attach the leash to your puppy's collar.

    2

Stand up and ask your puppy to sit so your leg is on your left. Praise it for sitting. Hold the leash in your left hand with your hand down by your side. With your right hand, grab the end of the leash. Keep your right elbow bent at your side.

    3

Slap your hand on your leg, right next to the puppy's head and say, "Heel." At the same time, starting with your left leg, walk at a steady pace. Praise it as soon as it walks in the direction you are going.

    4

Keep tension on the leash as you walk to remind the puppy to stay by your side. After walking 5-10 feet, stop and tell it to "Sit." Praise the puppy for the good job and offer a treat. Repeat the exercise for 30 minutes, remembering to praise it for a good job.
