Luckily, deodorizing your carpet requires just a little time and effort using mostly things you have around the house.

Instructions

    1

Locate urine spots using a black light, if you do not know where they are. With the room's lights off, pass the black light over the carpet. Glowing spots are urine-soaked spots. If the spot is still well, place clean paper towels over the top of it and step on the paper towel to soak up the urine. Repeat this with a clean towels until the towel comes back dry.

    2

Spray the urine spot with a commercial enzyme cleaner. These are available at pet supply stores. Alternatively, use a mixture of equal parts white distilled vinegar and water. Thoroughly soak the area. Rub the enzyme cleaner or vinegar mixture into the carpet using a scrub brush or old toothbrush.

    3

Cover the area with paper towels and step on the paper towels to soak up the excess liquid, as you did in Step 1. Replace the paper towels with clean ones and repeat the process until the spot is dry.

    4

Apply a thin layer of baking soda over the spot. Leave it to sit while you prepare a mixture of 1 tsp. liquid dish soap and a half cup 3 percent hydrogen peroxide.

    5

Pour the dish soap mixture onto the baking soda. Wear a pair of rubber cleaning gloves and scrub the soap mixture into the baking soda and into the fibers of the carpet. Use either your gloved hand or a scrub brush.

    6

Leave the area to dry overnight. Once completely dried, vacuum the area to remove the dried baking soda.

    7

Repeat the entire process with any other urine stains from potty training.
