How to Potty Train a Shitzu

Potty training your Shih Tzu puppy is an extremely important element of the adoption process. Teaching proper elimination habits are beneficial to the puppy, family and house. Shih Tzus may be a little more difficult to train when compared to other breeds. Patience and consistency go a long way when working through this crucial stage of a puppy's life.

Instructions

    1

Create a small area to keep the puppy in. "...Most people believe that it is crucial to get dog training tips preceding to getting their pets. Some individuals might discover this fascinating but a lot of people may concur that this is a really good tip to follow. The problem with some pet owners is they will get a dog and then find out that they can be not suitable to be aware of them. Eventually, they would probably get away from their pets in order to reestablish their previous lives. These dog training tips can let people know what they need to consider and if they have the time to coach their dogs. These suggestions may be found on Secrets To Dog Training. By taking the time to conduct correct dog training, you will enjoy a lifetime of comfortable friendship with your ".... Mobile pens or crates are great when beginning potty training. The crate should be large enough for the puppy to be comfortable in and be able to move, but should not provide too much room. The slightly confined space will discourage elimination inside.

    2

Choose a location in the yard to consistently take the puppy to eliminate. This should be easily accessible to you and the puppy, especially at night.

    3

Every hour, remove the puppy from the crate or pen area and take it to the designated area outside. Allow the puppy to walk around while you repeat a selected cue word. While the puppy eliminates, repeat this cue word with a slightly stronger tone. Give the puppy plenty of praise when it is done eliminating. Return inside after three to five minutes of exploring time.

    4

Play with the puppy outside of the crate or pen area for five to 15 minutes so it does not become bored. Return the puppy to the crate or pen when done. Allowing it to roam the house freely may result in indoor elimination and slow the training process.

    5

Repeat the process of taking the puppy outside every hour (when practical). Also, take the puppy outside 15 minutes after feeding, as this is a common time for elimination.

    6

As the puppy learns where to eliminate, slowly increase the amount of free play time in the house until it no longer needs to be confined to the crate or pen area.
