How to Stop a Puppy From Growling When Scolded

While you might think that growling is an aggressive trait in a dog, it isn't necessarily. Your puppy could growl at you after you scold it as a way of objecting to your correction. On the other hand, the puppy could growl because it is feeling unsure and insecure. Whatever is causing your puppy to growl, it is a behavior that you likely want to correct. Dealing with unwanted behaviors early in a dog's life is always best, as that way, the behavior can't spiral into worse actions.

Instructions

    1

Say "no" when your dog growls at you.

    2

Repeat the command and look the dog in the eye until it stops growling and looks away.

    3

Place the puppy inside its crate or in an isolated area for about 10 minutes. Do not give it affection just after correcting the behavior.

    4

Repeat these steps every time your dog growls at you after you scold it. Be consistent, because inconsistency can cause your dog to be confused about what you want.
